This week Y1 and Y2 children have had lessons in African Drumming and African Dance. On Monday the children learned about different types of drums, and how to play different patterns and rhythms on their drums. On Friday the children learnt the steps to a dance that told a story of a young boy catching some fish for a celebration in his village.
This week has been harvest week. All week children have been doing jobs at home to earn money which each class has collected in wellington boots. Each class has also chosen a country to find out about and to make and try food associated with that country. On Friday it was wear your wellies to school day, and our harvest assembly. We filled a giant welly with all the coins we collected; over £400, which we will be donating to Water Aid. In the assembly each class told us about their chosen country and food, we then all joined in with a poem about each country, each class doing their own verse and everyone joining in with chorus.
Today we said goodbye to two members of staff. Mrs Brown of class 1WB is retiring after nearly 30 years at Glendale, and Miss Brown of class R2 is getting married, but will be back in Year 2 in September as Mrs Hodgson.
Children and staff at Glendale have been helping to raise money for our local hospice, Mary Ann Evans by taking part in a go yellow day. Thank you to everyone who took part, helping us to raise over £160 for the Mary Ann Evans hospice.
